Diving in Belongas
Belongas is a destination favored by experienced divers and is regarded as one of the best diving spots in Lombok. In Belongas, you can encounter a wide variety of marine life, including hammerhead sharks, mobula rays, mola molas, and even whale sharks. However, these species are typically seen only during certain seasons, from around April or May through November or December. Nonetheless, throughout the year, divers can still find an abundance of marine species, such as schools of barracuda, tuna, giant trevally, and many other fish commonly found in Indonesian waters.
The Best Spot for Experienced Divers
The Cathedral
The Cathedral is a stunning dive site in Belongas Bay, featuring two towering underwater pinnacles that create a dramatic, cathedral-like formation. Covered in colorful corals and surrounded by rich marine life, it’s home to barracudas, tunas, trevallies, reef sharks, and sometimes rays. With depths of 15–35 meters and strong currents, it’s recommended for experienced divers. The best season to dive is from April to December, offering clear visibility and an exhilarating underwater adventure.
The Magnet
The Magnet is one of Lombok’s most iconic and challenging dive sites, located off Belongas Bay in South Lombok. This dramatic offshore pinnacle attracts large pelagic species such as hammerhead sharks, mobula rays, and giant trevallies, along with schools of barracuda and tuna. Strong currents and deep waters make it suitable only for advanced divers.
The best time to dive is between April and December, when visibility is excellent and marine life is most active. Offering both thrill and beauty, The Magnet promises an unforgettable diving experience for seasoned adventurers.
Gili Sarang
Gili Sarang is a beautiful dive site near the entrance of Belongas Bay, known for its colorful coral reefs, steep walls, and diverse marine life. Divers can encounter schools of trevallies, snappers, tunas, reef sharks, and occasional rays or turtles. With depths of 10–30 meters and generally calmer currents, it suits intermediate to advanced divers. The best time to dive is from April to December, offering clear water and vibrant underwater scenery.
